Mice from which antigen-naïve splenocytes were harvested and mice treated with DLE were also BALB/cJ, unless specified in figure legends. Experiments in BALB/c were repeated in mice purchased from Taconic Farms (Hudson, NY, USA). Experiments were performed in both male and female mice, but age and sex matched within each experiment. Mice were used between 7 and 12 wk of age. IL-17A/F dko mice were a kind gift from Rachael Caspi (NEI, Bethesda, MD, USA). OFFICE DEPOT SAN DISK MICROMATE SKINStat3 transgenic mice were a kind gift from John O’Shea (National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, Bethesda, MD, USA). TLR4 −/− mice, also deficient in the LPS-inactivating enzyme acyloxyacyl hydrolase, were a kind gift from Robert Munford (NIAID, Bethesda, MD, USA). We show that this passive cellular immunity is functional in both mice and humans and provides insights into the mechanistic basis and therapeutic potential of DLE.īALB/cJ, C57BL/6J, OT-I, OT-II, IFN-γ −/−, and C3H mice were purchased from The Jackson Laboratory (Bar Harbor, ME, USA). We show that the reportedly small, <8 kDa size of DLE activity is likely a reflection of past techniques and that instead, larger proteins are present, including bioactive TCR β chain and S100a9. We have further identified that DLE activity resides in antigen-specific CD8 + T cells and acts on antigen-loaded APCs to induce IL-6, which subsequently stimulates bystander memory CD8 + T cells. In approaching these historical reports with an open mind and modern techniques, we have confirmed transfer of immunity by DLE. However, earnest investigation into passive cellular immunity has largely ceased in recent decades, likely a consequence of both experimental inconsistencies and waning therapeutic interest subsequent to the discoveries of HIV and hepatitis C. The term DLE replaced transfer factor to better reflect the uncertainty of the lysate’s potential mechanisms. Reports following the discovery of the maternal transfer of antibodies asserted that dialyzed bovine colostrum activated similar pathways as leukocyte extracts but failed to clarify if these findings were attributable to the same mechanisms. Subsequent to its initial description, numerous claims surrounding transfer factor emerged, including enhanced wound healing, improved leukocyte chemotaxis, and anti-neoplastic activity. OFFICE DEPOT SAN DISK MICROMATE TRIALUncontrolled case series reported a benefit in diseases, including tuberculosis and CMC, and a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial showed protection against leukemia-related varicella zoster virus. This dialyzed cellular lysate was entitled transfer factor for its ability seemingly to transfer immunity. This effect was reportedly within the dialyzable, <8 kDa fraction and was conserved between humans and other mammals. Conversely, lysates from donors who were diphtheria toxin DTH + but PPD − only enhanced recipient diphtheria toxin immunity but not tuberculin reactivity. The leukocyte lysate from human donors with a positive DTH test to tuberculin (PPD +) but a negative DTH test to diphtheria appeared to transfer tuberculin reactivity passively to subjects who were previously PPD − without impacting reactivity to diphtheria toxin. However, lysis of these cells reportedly did not fully negate their immunity-transferring properties. Or are they really two different beasts? Yes, they have very different capabilities. The ability of cells from immunized guinea pigs to transfer immunity against infectious agents to naïve guinea pigs established the presence of cellular immunity. OFFICE DEPOT SAN DISK MICROMATE PLUSIs a USB flash drive basically equivalent to a USB card reader plus an SD card (or microSD card)? They are "basically equivalent" only from the functional perspective of a data storage device that emulates an ATA drive. Moreover, is a card reader same as a memory stick? You'll find these at local and online electronics retailers with a typical price tag of around $10. It doesn't require any fancy tricks, just an SD card to USB adapter that's compatible with the card you have. Simply so, can you convert SD card to USB?įortunately, you can side-step any such compatibility issues by simply turning your SD card into a USB drive. Most card readers also offer write capability, and together with the card, this can function as a pen drive. A memory card reader is a device for accessing the data on a memory card such as a CompactFlash (CF), Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMediaCard (MMC).

This normally happens with speeds between 11 and 73 km/s and at altitudes of about 75-120 km. A meteor is the light that you can see when a small meteoroid enters the Earth’s atmosphere. Most people call this flash a "shooting star" or a "falling star", but more accurately spoken this is a meteor. The ones about the size of a pebble leave behind a flash of light when they completely vaporise. Image taken by David Kingham in Snowy Range (Wyoming). Perseid meteor shower on August 12, 2012. The smallest and by far the most numerous ones have sizes of small dust particles and are called micrometeoroids they do not leave any visible trace behind when they enter the Earth's atmosphere. Anyhow, the vast majority of all meteoroids are just a few millimetres and less in size. Wikipedia states 10 metres other trustworthy sites call anything smaller than 1 km a meteoroid. There is no exact diameter that distinguishes an asteroid from a meteoroid. Other meteoroids are basically small asteroids. Most of them originate from comets that lose gas and dust when they approach the Sun. Generally speaking, meteoroids are all the smaller objects in orbit around the Sun. Fortunately no people were killed during this event and today you can even buy a Chelyabinsk meteorite. Many of you will remember the Chelyabinsk event which took place on the 15th of February 2013. Anyhow, Sisyphus and none of the other big Apollo asteroids will collide with Earth in the next millennia which doesn't mean that smaller bodies can cause local damage. The largest Apollo asteroid - 1866 Sisyphus - has a diameter of about 9 km, similar to the asteroid that caused the Chicxulub event, the giant meteorite impact that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. Apollo asteroids are doomed to sooner or later collide with one of the inner planets, usually within a few million years of their orbit becoming so eccentric. All asteroids with orbits so eccentric that they cross Earth's orbit are called 'Apollo asteroids', 'Amors' approach the Earth but do not cross Earth's orbit. The cause of these elliptical trajectories could be collisions within the asteroid belt or the gravitational influence of the massive planet Jupiter changing the orbits of some asteroids gradually over time (see orbital resonance). Some asteroids have very elliptical trajectories, crossing the orbits of the inner planets Mars, Earth or Venus. The scale of the solar system is so immense that even inside the asteroid belt the average distance between two asteroids is above one million km - or three times the distance between Earth and the Moon.Īsteroid Itokawa, an Apollo asteroid with a length of 500 metres. If you try to envision the asteroid belt don't get fooled by some science fiction films: travelling around in the asteroid belt with your spacecraft doesn't require constant steering in order to avoid crashes with asteroids. The biggest body in the asteroid belt - Ceres - is officially not called an asteroid anymore but a dwarf planet. Even though there are millions of asteroids with sizes up to more than 500 km (like Pallas and Vesta) they are of no danger to the planet Earth. Most of them are in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. If a comet approaches the Sun it can generate a tail of gas and/or dust.Īn asteroid is a celestial body - composed of rock, metal or a mixture of both - that is orbiting the Sun. This is a 'guided' self-teaching C# workshop. This workshop is targeted at highly motivated individuals who are interested in learning C# or who have attempted to learn C# in the past, but found that without sufficient support and mentoring they were unable to connect all the pieces of this highly complex but powerful programming language. This workshop is designed to aid people in their journey to learn beginning C# (C-Sharp).
